SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting Celebrating the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan NEW Warehouse
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Ribbon Cutting celebration for the NEW Warehouse for the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan! \n\n\n\nThe Michigan Chapter of Assistance League was started in 1993 with 39 visionary women united together to form a steering committee to establish the first AL in Michigan. This led the way to the formulation of ALSM which officially began in March\, 1994. With 135 members\, the largest charter membership of a new chapter in the history of National. Our focus has been to address the unmet needs in our community.\n\n\n\nReSale Connection has been open since March\, 2000. Having out grown our garages and basements\, we determined they were no longer sufficient storage and leased the current warehouse space the following year in 2001.\n\n\n\nToday\, ALSM reached for the stars and captured a brilliant opportunity! We are the proud owners of 440 South Street in Rochester\, a 12\,000 square foot building that will become the center for activities and opportunities to ensure AL continues to shine brightly for years to come. Our Capital Campaign is up and running!\n\n \n\nReSale Connection is our non-profit\, upscale resale thrift shop that sells donated new and gently-used items of women's clothing\, accessories\, jewelry\, home and d cor\, furniture\, and also offers consignment items of women's apparel and home goods. The new warehouse allows us to expand and store furniture to sell in the ReSale Connection. This will allow us to grow chapter revenue to meet the increasing needs in the communities we serve through our nine philanthropic programs.\n\n \n\nALSM is a non-profit\, 501(c)(3)\, hands-on\, volunteer organization with 265 members. Funds raised remain in Michigan.\n\n\n\nSources of Revenue:\n\n	ReSale Connection\n	Mistletoe Marketplace Fundraiser: Annual November event with luncheon\, auctions\, raffles and exhibitors.\n	Tributes/Memorials: Contributions to our chapter in honor or memory of individuals or special events.\n	Annual Fund\n	Grants\, Major Gifts and Planned Giving/Endowment: Donations from corporations\, charitable foundations and individuals.\n\nFundraising Activities: Special events with businesses\, community\, organizations and members.\n\n\n\nPhilanthropic Programs: All year round\, members purchase\, tag\, inventory\, transport\, pack\, store and distribute merchandise. The following programs are provided without any charge to recipients\, and staffed by chapter members and community volunteers.\n\n\n\nOperation School Bell \n\nProvides new school clothing and/or necessities for students. For some students\, this may be the first new coat or clothing they can call their own\, bringing smiles to many faces.\n\n\n\nAssault Survivor Kits \n\nProvides personal kits for children and adult survivors of abuse\, sexual assault and domestic violence whose clothing was destroyed by the perpetrator or retained by police for evidence.\n\n\n\nNourishing Neighbors\n\nOur chapter partners with Neighborhood House Food Pantry to provide nutritious food for children and families.\n\n\n\nPass It Forward\n\nAssistance League ReSale's Connection store donates excess clothing to local nonprofit agencies that distribute to those in need at no charge.\n\n\n\nWee Help\n\nProvides layette kits of over 20 items for baby's first weeks\, along with a Safe Sleep Package of a new portable crib\, sheet\, and wearable blanket to moms and their newborns.\n\n\n\nOne-2-One Tutoring\n\nEarly intervention tutoring program for at-risk K-2 reading students at local school.\n\n\n\nScholarships\n\nProviding financial aid to students experiencing difficult life circumstances\, enabling them to continue their educational progress at two local community colleges.\n\n\n\nLink to Creative Teaching\n\nProviding enrichment opportunities for students in all phases of education not funded by their districts.\n\n\n\nCommunity Connection\n\nThis three-pronged program reaches out to seniors\, veterans\, and youth aging out of foster care.\n\n \n\nCo-Founders Anne Banning & Ada Edwards Laughlin established Assistance League as the first nonprofit\, nonpolitical\, nonsectarian organization founded in the west to recognize the potential of volunteers in helping those less fortunate to a better\, more meaningful life. Today\, chapters across the US address the emotional and physical needs of children and adults of all ages regardless of race or creed.\n\n\n\nOur new warehouse is 12\,670 square feet and is 1 minute and 15 seconds down the street from our current warehouse. This warehouse will include 2 offices\, 3 bathrooms\, 1 large warehouse about 8\,330 square feet\, and a smaller attached warehouse of about 3\,300 square feet. This purchase is extremely exciting because it will:\n\n\n	Provide more room for all of our programs inventory\n	Allow us to store and sell more used furniture\n	Provide an opportunity for future e-commerce\n	Be a safer environment due to its size\n	Provide small group meeting space\n	Provide plenty of room for assembling any and all of our kits.\n\nVisit the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan website HERE.
