DESCRIPTION:In a celebration of artistry\, community\, and national heritage\, the Rochester Community Concert Band (RCCB) proudly presents An American Tapestry on Tuesday\, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Varner Recital Hall (371 Varner Drive) on the campus of Oakland University. Free parking is available in nearby lots\, including 36\, 26\, and 24. Admission is free\, and donations are warmly welcomed.\n\nUnder the direction of conductor Paul F. DeRubeis\, the RCCB invites audiences to experience an evening of musical storytelling that honors both its 10th Anniversary Season and the spirit of America's 250th Anniversary.\n\nGracefully weaving together tradition and innovation\, this commemorative program showcases the depth and diversity of the American musical landscape. Featured bass clarinet soloist Colin Mile brings brilliance and lyricism to the Rondo movement of Concerto per Clarinetto by Michele Mangani. The evening also highlights the highly anticipated world premiere of Hold Fast by Andrew David Perkins\, a work commissioned by the RCCB to mark this milestone season.\n\nAudiences will also be treated to a rich array of repertoire\, including The Old Boatman by Florence Price\, An American Spectacular by Chris Sharp\, and the rousing march The National Game by John Philip Sousa a vibrant nod to America's enduring traditions.\n\nThe RCCB is honored to welcome guest conductor Dr. Pamela Klena\, Associate Professor of Music at Oakland University\, who will lead a poignant performance of A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse. Adding to the evening's sense of community and collaboration\, RCCB member Byron Coulter will conduct the beloved wind band classic Mannin Veen by Haydn Wood.\n\nThe program concludes with Glenn Miller in Concert\, a dazzling tribute to the legendary Glenn Miller\, celebrating the timeless elegance and energy of his music.\n\nThe Rochester Community Concert Band is a volunteer ensemble of passionate musicians dedicated to enriching the cultural fabric of the community through free\, high-quality performances and engaging programming.\n\nThis activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and CME Group.\n\nJoin the RCCB for an unforgettable evening of music where past and present converge in a stirring tribute to ten years of performance and 250 years of American heritage.
