SUMMARY:The Color of Rain Drive-In Movie\, featuring the story of Gina and Michael Spehn of New Day Foundation
DESCRIPTION:EMAGINE NOVI TO HOST DRIVE-IN MOVIE SCREENING OF HALLMARK'S \n\nTOP-RATED MOVIE\, THE COLOR OF RAIN\n\n \n\nLaughter\, Compassion And Faith Make Local Couple's True Story An Inspiration\n\n \n\nThe film voted as one of Hallmark's ten best movie storylines of the decade is also the true-life story of Rochester couple Gina and Michael Spehn and their blended family. The Color of Rain\, based on the New York Times best-selling memoir by New Day Foundation co-founders Michael and Gina Spehn\, will be shown in a special screening at the Emagine Novi Drive-In Theatre\, 44425 W 12 Mile Rd\, on Wed.\, Oct. 14\, at 8 p.m. \n\n \n\nTickets are $30 per vehicle and available at https://colorofrain.eventbrite.com. Proceeds will go to the New Day Foundation for Families. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and social distancing will be encouraged. In the event of bad weather\, the event will be moved indoors. New Day is a local nonprofit dedicated to reducing the financial burden and emotional stress caused by cancer. The origins of the non-profit organization\, which has served more than 3\,100 people in Michigan since 2007\, are told in The Color of Rain. \n\n \n\n"I've been a supporter of New Day Foundation for years\, but not until cancer hit home did I fully understand the loss of income that it brings with it\," said Paul Glantz\, CEO of Emagine Entertainment. "The financial impact of cancer can be devastating to a family\, especially when an adult with the main source of income is unable to work. Emagine is proud to support New Day Foundation with a special screening of this beautiful story of hope\, made possible by our friends Gina and Michael Spehn." \n\n \n\nThe Color of Rain\, featuring Hallmark favorite Lacey Chabert as Gina\, became a popular Hallmark original movie in 2014 after the memoir of the same name became a New York Times bestseller. As the true-life story goes\, when Matt Kell\, husband and father to two young boys\, succumbs to terminal cancer on Christmas day 2005\, his widow\, Gina (Lacey Chabert) is left to cope with the pain of his loss. Wanting to be close to her kids\, Gina starts to volunteer at their elementary school and meets the Spehn children\, Jack\, Danny and Charlotte. \n\n \n\nIn a tragic coincidence\, just weeks after Matt's death\, the Spehns' mom\, Cathy\, was also suddenly taken by cancer\, leaving her distraught husband\, Michael (Warren Christie)\, to care for their three kids on his own. Sensing the hopelessness in Michael that she so recently saw in herself\, Gina reaches out to him and his kids and the two families begin to forge an unlikely friendship. During the year that follows\, the lives of the two families become intertwined as they learn to lean on each other\, beginning to heal with laughter\, compassion and faith. \n\n \n\n"Our marriage was this perfect culmination of our story and\, literally\, how God turns mourning into dancing\," said Gina Kell Spehn. "Michael and I are grateful to Paul and Emagine Theatres for sharing our story with the community. The support for New Day will allow us to reach families in their hour of need and make it possible for them to thrive in the face of tremendous adversity."\n\n \n\nThe screening of The Color of Rain will kick off New Day Foundation's Hope for the Holidays fundraising campaign this year. Donations to New Day will help provide housing\, utilities\, transportation\, food and more to cancer patients and their families throughout Michigan. The programs funded will have a positive and lasting impact on treatment outcomes and survivorship by reducing the catastrophic effects of financial toxicity caused by a cancer diagnosis. Visit the New Day webpage to learn more or to donate. \n\n \n\nABOUT\n\nNew Day Foundation for Families\, a 2020 Top-Rated NonProfit by GreatNonprofits and Gold Level Guidestar organization\, is a Rochester Hills\, Mich. nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the effects of financial toxicity and emotional stress caused by cancer.
