“The women of the medical profession were not called to the colors, but they decided to go anyway.” Esther Pohl Lovejoy, MD

The Museum is proud to share the American Medical Women’s Association Exhibition and documentary, American Women Physicians in World War I that celebrate the contributions of women, who despite capabilities equal to their male colleagues, were not permitted the same military rank and privilege.  Unable to surmount these barriers, they still made lasting contributions to the war effort.

The American Medical Women’s Association has produced this video to highlight the contributions made by these unsung heroes. Following the movie, the President of the Student Chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association, Anne Drolet, will share the history of  AMWA that was founded in 1915 by Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen.
