Plans for the new facility include a year-round, extended-hours childcare and preschool program that will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The new program will  serve children ages 0-5, up to entering kindergarten. The childcare facility is scheduled to open September 4, 2018.

“The strategic plan ensures that we focus our resources on developing and enhancing curriculum and instruction programs, global awareness opportunities, and technology and infrastructure. To that end, Rochester Community Schools is proud to announce that we will be expanding our preschool program,” said Superintendent Robert Shaner, Ph.D.

“By expanding our district’s preschool and daycare programs and offering a year-round, extended-hours operation, we can better serve the needs of families residing within the Rochester Community School District boundaries,” said Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Debi Fragomeni.

Rochester Community Schools recognizes the importance of early childhood education and currently operates 29 preschool classes in nine school buildings throughout the district. Existing preschool classes for students, ages 3-4, are held in schools or portable buildings across the district at locations with excess classroom capacity. Preschool and before and after school programs are currently available on student school days only, except for summer camps.

“We are proud of the work that is being done to enhance our current pre-K programs, but to fully meet the needs of the community, we needed to expand our footprint. Opening a high-quality childcare center provided an innovative solution with great opportunity,” said Shaner.
