Pixley Funeral Home has teamed up with St. Joseph Mercy Hospice to present Hospice Foundation of America’s, “The Longest Loss: Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia” Seminar. . When the diagnosis is Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, grief doesn’t wait for death. Grieving can begin in the doctor’s office when patients and families receive the news. Then, over a span of what may be a decade, losses associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia become a pervasive part of life for millions of patients, their families and friends. After the death, survivors’ grieving may be complicated by the very nature of a lengthy disease process that often has changed their relationship with the deceased. Through a combination of candid, compelling, pre-recorded interviews and live, in-studio discussion, experts will discuss how to best help patients and families cope with the loss and grief associated with these progressive illnesses. This free seminar is open to the public and health care professionals alike. It will be held October 28t at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Rd., Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Doors open at 8:00am with a light breakfast. The seminar will begin at 8:30am followed by a live panel discussion. If Alzheimer’s or Dementia is affecting the life of someone you care about, this event is for you. CEUs are available through the Hospice Foundation of America for healthcare professionals.
