Arts & Entertainment Driving Directions: 620 Romeo Road, Rochester, Michigan
The Rochester Symphony began in 1961. In the early years, musicians were mostly volunteer, and their expenses were covered by ticket sales, board members and loyal supporters. In (1978-2001), the orchestra became independent and the quality of sound reached new levels, as the orchestra attained a reputation for musical excellence. From (2002-2009) Glenn Klassen took up the baton as music director traveling from his home in Alberta, Canada to continue the tradition of excellence. In 2010 Clark Suttle was chosen to lead the RSO into its 50th anniversary year. In 2014 the RSO was most fortunate to acquire the leadership and talents of Zeljko Milicevic as the new music director and conductor. He has elevated the caliber and professional performance quality of the RSO beyond expectations. The RSO offers subscription concerts, which feature noted guest artists and soloists. It also conducts educational and outreach programs in the community. The Rochester Symphony Orchestra is proud of its role as a major contributor to the active cultural and arts environment that has made greater Rochester area a more pleasant place in which to live, work and visit.
