The Michigan Humane Society’s 8th annual Mega March for Animals, the largest walk for animals in Michigan, is growing, along with the goal of changing even more animal lives. This year, the Mega March will offer three times the fun, with three walk locations on two days this fall. In addition to last year’s locations at Kensington Metropark and the original walk in Hart Plaza in Detroit, a third location, Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township, has been added, to reach more animal lovers and ultimately help change more animal lives. The two metropark walks will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, and the grand finale walk at Hart Plaza will be held Sunday, Oct. 13. At all three walks, registration/check-in begins 9 a.m. and the approximately two-mile walk will kick off at 10 a.m.

“The Michigan Humane Society is excited to expand the Mega March for Animals as more people look to assist us in doing more and more within our communities to help animals,” said Cal Morgan, MHS President and CEO. “We’re inviting compassionate pet lovers from across metro Detroit to march through the streets of beautiful downtown Detroit and through the scenic landscapes of Kensington and Stony Creek metroparks with one goal in mind: ending pet homelessness and ultimately, saving lives. Through the community’s support, this year’s Mega March for Animals promises to be the biggest and best yet!”
There is no registration fee or minimum donation to participate. However, those who register online now at HYPERLINK "http://www.michiganhumane.org/mega" www.michiganhumane.org/mega will be eligible for all the periodic fundraising incentives, starting in early August. Using MHS’ online tools is fun and easy for participants to set up a personalized webpage, share why they are getting involved, invite others to participate or donate to their walk, and track their fundraising progress.
The Hart Plaza walk will take Mega Marchers through the streets of historic downtown Detroit and a portion of the beautiful RiverWalk; the Kensington route – new this year – will take walkers along the shores of Kent Lake; and at Stony Creek, walkers will enjoy a scenic stroll through woods. Those walking with a pet are asked to ensure the pet is on a leash or in a carrier at all times, and to bring the pet’s current vaccination records.
