Nicole CondonRibbon Cutting for the Free Mini Financial Library Created by Leadership Greater Rochester Graduates, Jordan Gettel and Jeremy Peckens
Jordan Gettel from Genisys Credit Union and Jeremy Peckens from the City of Rochester graduated from the Leadership Greater Rochester program in 2023 and wanted to create a project that gave back to the community.
Thus, the free mini financial library next to the "Freedge" was born. The "Freedge" located next to city hall in the City of Rochester is a free food pantry at city hall that is stocked by residents, churches, community groups, and non-profits. Jordan and Jeremy expanded upon this concept creating a free mini financial library near the "Freedge" providing information on how to become more financially stable and good practices in financial independence.
The grab and go information will help residents learn about budgeting, good and bad debt, as well as how to build credit. As Jordan and Jeremy explained, "The thought was if someone is experiencing food instability then that person might benefit from information on how to become more financially stable."
The mission of the Leadership Greater Rochester program:
Our mission is to build a broad-based network of community leaders to enhance their leadership abilities and skills through continuing education, shared perspectives, and community involvement in order to enable them to work toward solutions in the public interest.
