After years of planning, fundraising, and community support, the Brewster Elementary PTA is proud to announce the completion of its new Outdoor Classroom, a space designed to connect students with nature while enhancing educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom walls.

The project began five years ago when the PTA received a small grant that sparked the vision of creating an outdoor learning environment where students could experience and learn from Michigan’s distinct four seasons. Determined to bring the idea to life, PTA members spent more than a year securing additional grants and raising funds through corporate sponsorships, personal contributions, and community donations.

The result is a welcoming outdoor space where learning and nature grow side by side. Featuring durable, commercial-grade stacked log benches that blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, the Outdoor Classroom provides students with a unique setting that inspires curiosity, encourages creativity, and supports emotional well-being.

Creating the Outdoor Classroom has truly been a community effort. This space will provide meaningful opportunities for learning, exploration, and connection for years to come.

Brewster Elementary is committed to fostering academic excellence, social-emotional development, and strong community involvement. The Outdoor Classroom supports that mission by providing students of all abilities with opportunities to engage with grade-level content in a relaxing and stimulating environment. Research has shown that outdoor learning environments can help reduce stress, increase engagement, and promote a deeper connection to both learning and nature.

Located near the school’s ball fields, the Outdoor Classroom will also serve as a gathering place for the broader community. Outside of school hours, residents and visitors can use the space to sit, reflect, observe nature, or conduct their own investigations in a peaceful outdoor setting.
