Corewell Health On-Site Class Offerings

Community Partners,

As an Adult Level 2 Trauma Center we offer a variety of classes to the community with the goal of preventing injuries that lead to Emergency Department visits and hospitalization.  The primary mechanisms of injury that we see in our community are falls and motor vehicle accidents.  These classes can be held at a variety of locations including recreation centers, churches, senior centers, independent senior living centers, assisted living centers, schools, places of employment, or any location where we can host a group of people who are interested in reducing their risk of injury or learning how to save a life.  Our team can accommodate almost any date and time and all classes are offered free of charge and typically last approximately 1 hour.

Stop the Bleed – Bleeding Control
Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma.
The greater the number of people who know how to control bleeding in an injured patient, the greater the chances of surviving that injury.  You can help save a life by knowing how to stop bleeding if someone, including yourself, is injured.  Learn the various ways to control bleeding, whether you only have your two hands to use or whether you have a full trauma first aid kit available to you.  Stop the Bleed is a free, one-hour class designed to educate with hands-on materials to learn how to control life threatening bleeding.

Hands Only CPR/AED Training
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is the single most important lifesaving skill initiated when someone is in cardiac arrest (heart stops beating or beating irregularly).  Studies have proven that immediate CPR administration can double or even triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. (American Heart Association) Even more staggering is that according to 2014 data, nearly 45 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims survived when bystander CPR was administered. (American Heart Association).  Hands only CPR/AED training is a free, one-hour class focused on teaching CPR skills and knowledge and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Choking emergencies are also covered as well.

Cold weather and Cardiovascular Health/ Stroke awareness
This one-hour presentation covers cardiovascular health and disease processes and how cold weather can affect them. It also covers stroke signs and symptoms that you should not overlook and when you should come into the Emergency room.
