Rochester-Avon Historical Society President Joins Michigan Historic Preservation Network Board

Tiffany Dziurman, president of the Rochester-Avon Historical Society, has been elected to the board of directors of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN). The announcement came during the MHPN’s annual meeting and conference held on May 9 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Founded in 1981, MHPN is the largest membership organization in the state committed to recognizing and supporting Michigan’s cultural and architectural legacy. Their efforts span historic buildings, landmarks, and the stories that bring the past to life. The Rochester-Avon Historical Society, established in 1969, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate the community about local history and instill a sense of pride in our shared heritage.

Dziurman’s election to the MHPN board coincided with National Historic Preservation Month, a timely celebration that underscores the importance of safeguarding our cultural treasures.

“In addition to saving our cultural heritage and resources,” Dziurman said, “historic preservation plays a vital role in economic development and contributes to mitigating the effects of climate change by conserving a structure’s embodied energy and keeping building materials out of a landfill. I look forward to working with the best preservation professionals in the state,” she continued, “and contributing my expertise to preservation efforts across Michigan.”

Dziurman’s commitment to preservation extends beyond the organizational level. She and the historical society have been at the forefront of working to save and preserve significant local sites, including the former Rochester High School/Rochester Community Schools Administration Building at 501 W. University and the iconic Rochester Elevator building on East University and Water streets. As a professional historian, Dziurman combines research, writing, and marketing to help bring new life to historical sites and share stories that help connect the past with the present.
