Adults with developmental disabilities remain significantly underrepresented in the American workforce — and Dutton Farm, a metro Detroit nonprofit, wants to change that.
With March recognized nationally as Disability Awareness Month, the organization is calling on businesses and community leaders to move beyond awareness and take concrete steps toward inclusive hiring.
"Employment creates purpose, connection, and opportunity," said Jenny Brown, Dutton Farm's chief executive. "When businesses open their doors to inclusive hiring practices, they're not just filling a role — they're strengthening their teams and building a community where everyone has the opportunity to contribute."
Despite documented strengths in dedication, reliability, and problem-solving, adults with disabilities continue to face significant barriers in the job market, according to national workforce data. Dutton Farm works alongside employers to demonstrate that inclusive workplaces benefit entire organizations, not just individual employees.
The organization is inviting businesses and community members to learn more about inclusive employment and explore partnership opportunities this month.
Dutton Farm is a Rochester Hills-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering adults with disabilities to live with purpose, independence, and inclusion. Through workforce development, life-skills programming, and community engagement, the organization helps individuals build confidence, develop job skills, and participate fully in their communities.
