Pontiac officials, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Amazon, Board members, Volunteers, and Supporters to welcome a first-time homeowner into her new Habitat home.
Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County is excited to celebrate the culmination of months of hard work with a Home Celebration Ceremony to honor the newest Habitat Homeowner, on Tuesday, April 21st.
Over the course of the past year, hundreds of volunteers, construction professionals, and future homeowners came together to build Habitat Oakland’s latest single-family home. One of those individuals is Leticia, the newest Habitat Homeowner in Pontiac. Leticia shared that the most meaningful part of this journey is giving “her disabled daughter an accessible home that can accommodate her wheelchair and other medical equipment.” Like all Habitat homeowners, Leticia contributed hours of sweat equity and completed a series of homeownership and financial literacy courses, preparing her for long-term success and stability in her new home.
“The Home Celebration Ceremony represents an exciting milestone in our efforts to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing in Oakland County. We offer our homes at appraised value to drive neighborhood vibrancy and to reinforce the economic health of the area” said Michele Hodges, Executive Director and CEO of Habitat Oakland. “Such an ambitious project wouldn’t be possible without support from Habitat Oakland’s dedicated volunteers, sponsors, community partners, Amazon, and MSHDA Investing in Community Housing (MICH).” MICH is a program designed to provide single-family home repair and new construction to increase accessibility and visit-ability statewide. MICH is Housing & Community Development grant-funded with State and Local Fiscal Recovery – American Rescue Plan funding. As a MICH grantee, Habitat Oakland was able to complete three single-family homes in Pontiac, MI.
