May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Cancer’s toll isn’t limited to the body; it wages war on the mind too. New Day Foundation for Families can help.

New Day's Emotional Support Program offers patients, families and caregivers alike the mental health resources needed to navigate their cancer journey. Whether it's creating coping strategies for managing stress, providing a safe place to talk honestly, or simply helping to lighten the load, our panel of more than 30 licensed therapists are ready to work with the unique challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

Statistics

  • Emotional support programs are proven to reduce the risk of dying from cancer.
  • Mortality rates are up to 39% higher among cancer patients with depression when compared to those without mental illness.
  • Poorly managed mental health symptoms can decrease patients' willingness to start treatment or their ability to tolerate side effects, prompting some to cut back on their doses or discontinue treatment altogether.

New Day works to overcome barriers to treatment for families facing cancer. To this end, counseling is available at a reduced-cost for qualified applicants in Michigan. For more information, contact Jenny Moeller, Emotional Support Coordinator, at Jenny@newdayff.org or call New Day at (248) 648-1105.
