Under the direction of Paul F. DeRubeis, Conductor and Artistic Director, and in continued celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Rochester Community Concert Band will present an entertaining and diverse program celebrating the many musical traditions, styles, and voices that contribute to the American musical experience.
The concert will also feature Jueon Kim, flute, the Rochester Community Concert Band’s 2026 Scholarship Winner from Rochester Adams High School. The band is proud to recognize Jueon’s accomplishments and provide an opportunity to celebrate the talents of a promising young musician from the local community.
An American Mosaic of Music
The program brings together music from the concert stage, film, popular culture, jazz, and the American hymn tradition. Featured selections include America the Beautiful, by Samuel Augustus Ward and arranged by Carmen Dragon; American Hymnsong Suite, by Dwayne S. Milburn; At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral, by Jared Spears; Battle Hymn of the Republic, by Peter J. Wilhousky and arranged by James Neilson; Foundry, by John Mackey; How to Train Your Dragon, by John Powell and arranged by Sean O’Loughlin; Nine to Five, by Dolly Parton and arranged by James Ivor Holland; Procession of the Nobles, by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and arranged by Erik Leidzen; Rumba de la Tumba, by JaRod Hall; and Where We Meet, a consortium commission by Hailey Woodrow.
The program will take audiences on a musical journey through a variety of American sounds and traditions, from the pageantry of the concert hall and the excitement of film music to jazz, hymns, and popular music.
The Rochester Community Concert Band invites the community to join Paul F. DeRubeis, Jueon Kim, and the musicians of the Rochester Community Concert Band for an evening of music celebrating the remarkable variety that makes up America’s musical mosaic.
This activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and CME Group.
Also, the RCCB is once again partnering with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra/Detroit Harmony Initiative for their October Used Instrument Donation Campaign. To date, Detroit Harmony has distributed more than 3000 instruments to the youth of Detroit thanks to the generosity of many who have donated instruments. To that end, we are inviting concert goers to scrounge their closets for any band or string instruments (in any condition) they are no longer using and bring them to the concert to donate. Ask your friends and relatives too! Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated.
The Rochester Community Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to enriching the community through musical performances.
