The Rochester Regional Chamber Foundation (RRCF) is pleased to announce Mr. Greg Kampe as the 2024 Grand Marshal for the annual Rochester Area Hometown Christmas Parade, with new presenting sponsors: Erskine Law Attorneys & Counselors, Genisys Credit Union, & Serra Buick Ford GMC of Rochester Hills.

The 2024 Grand Marshall was announced during the Rochester Regional Chamber's annual Sunrise Awards early in October. We are pleased to honor Coach Greg Kampe, a community hero working as Oakland University's Men's Head Basketball Coach.

Grand Marshals are selected based on a person’s involvement and investment in our community.

About Greg Kampe
Greg Kampe, head of Oakland University’s men’s basketball team, is in his 41st season with the program and achieved his 700th career win earlier this year. As the longest-tenured Division I coach in all of college basketball, Kampe led the Golden Grizzlies to a tournament title last season and took down the University of Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament for a historic win. Throughout his career, Kampe has coached six NBA players, has mentored 13 All-District players since 2009, and has earned a place in the:

  • American Basketball Hall of Fame
  • The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame
  • The Oakland University Athletics Hall of Honor
Off the court, Kampe is equally dedicated to community service. He has raised over $500,000 for the American Cancer Society through events like his annual Coaches Beat Cancer initiative. His philanthropic efforts have earned him the prestigious Sparky Anderson Community Excellence Award, recognizing individuals who excelled in their professional field while making a significant impact with charities throughout the community.

Over the years, Kampe has supported numerous causes. He has visited troops overseas and collaborated with organizations such as:
  • The Boys and Girls Club of America,
  • The Oakland County Shelter for Women in Need,
  • Beyond Basics, stressing the importance of education to inner-city youth.
Awarded 2022 Detroit News Michiganian of the Year, Kampe also serves as a chairman of Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac, working toward building a new shelter for those in need while he and his team cook and help feed those in the community. Earlier this season, Kampe and the Golden Grizzlies partnered with the University of Michigan to play an exhibition game that benefitted Forgotten Harvest. This non-profit food rescue organization collects food and delivers it to organizations that feed communities throughout Metro Detroit.

Kampe’s contributions to the community and his dedication to helping others extend well beyond basketball, solidifying his legacy as a coach and a leader committed to making a positive impact on and off the court.
